It’s another day to express
yourself to the world through the medium you like best! What made me say this?
Well, it’s the fact that I am trying my hand on DIY Projects and Crafts. You
might have read my post about the first giveaway I ever won from Indie Fashion
and Beauty’s blog, if you haven’t yet, you may read it here :> So anyway, as
I was saying, my prize for winning that giveaway is a Martha Stewart Craft Set
from Plaid Crafts! I was very happy to know that I won it and finally last
Friday, April 20, 2012, I went to the Post Office to claim it!
It’s quite a heavy package
considering that the contents are sets of paints and etc.
So what are the
contents you ask?
One (1) Mod Podge Water-based
Sealer, Glue and Finish – This product is the bomb! I can only think of a lot
of things to do with the use of this baby. It’s a good thing that it came in a
big bottle because I will have a hard time purchasing one like this here in the
Philippines. Mod Podge takes care of sealing your craft projects and gives it a
glossy finish. I recently used this on one of my bangles to protect the metal
from rusting and for the wood part to have a really shiny finish – looks as
good as new!
One (1) Fabric Stiffener – I still
haven’t found a use for this. It comes in a generously large tube as well so I
should be thankful. According to the label, it stiffens any fabric which makes
it easy to use for projects such as flower crochets and fabric appliques. My
mom will make good use of this!
Four (4) Martha Stewart Crafts
Multi-surface Acrylic Craft Paint in Satin and Glitter Finishes – These little
babies come in 56ml tubes and are highly pigmented. As the label puts it, it
can be applied on almost any surface – glass, wood, plastic, fabric and paper! The colors I got though are only bright pink,
mild lavender, glittery pink and gold.
One (1) set of Martha Stewart
Crafts Adhesive Stencils in Fair Isle Dots Design – I must say this is the
highlight of the set! HAHA :D Since I’m not a natural born painter, I find this
very useful because it makes my decorating/designing projects fairly easy. It’s
very easy to use and sticks on any surface, may it be flat or curved. It comes
in 18 unique and pretty designs which I will show you later!
That’s it for the contents of the
package and now I’m going to show you the first ever project I made using the
abovementioned products. Please be good to me – I’m a noob at this and I’m
hardly the SUPER artsy type.
First, I rummaged over the
cupboard to find my first craft victim. Luck is on my side and I found this
cute little ceramic sugar jar!
I find this photo disturbing. HAHA. Took it during night time with the wrong settings. :< |
Since I am going to use the
paints on this jar, I applied alcohol to the surface so the paint will adhere
much better. I chose a design of my liking and took the stencil piece from the
pad.
Once you have the stencil, you
can stick it to the surface like this. I placed additional scotch tapes on the
upper and lower sides because things can get messy.
I squeezed a tiny amount of the
bright pink craft paint onto my mixing plate. With the use of a soft brush, I
applied it onto the stencil. While the paint was still wet, I took the stencil
off with extra care and voila! The jar has this cute design already!
I did the
same on all the sides of the jar and placed another design and color
alternately. Easy-peasy right? Anyone can do this.
And the finished product?
And because I can’t get enough of
crafting, look at what I made! HAHAHA :D
A box I bought for Php10.00 at PenHaus. I decorated this to house my craft materials :> |
