There’s always something striking about body care products that make use of all organic or natural ingredients. Maybe the reason behind it is we've been hearing too much negative effects from using chemically-produced products and because we want to become more healthy. During my last trip to Dakak, I brought with me some body care essentials that boast only of organic/natural ingredients under the brand – NannyRose!
"Nanny Rose is a local Filipino brand that entered the market early 2011. The brand is and has been inspired by the available and abundant natural ingredients that can be used for personal care. Nanny Rose leaps from this knowledge and uses the best of nature to create products that care for women. By infusing time-honored remedies into meticulous recipe concoction, you get products that will sweetly sweep you off your feet while taking care of you. Making use of only the ingredients that are beneficial for us, you can be sure that each product of Nanny Rose is prepared and made with love."
Among the products that I have tried from Nannyrose are the following:
[1] Lemonest Lemony Lip Balm + Sunscreen (10g for PHP60)
It invigorates thirsty lips with its citrus kick of freshly squeezed lemons! This pot of lemon kiss will keep your lips protected under the sun whilst keeping them quenched.
Ingredients:
Castor Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla), Cera Alba (Beeswax), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba), Honey, Preservative, Sunscreen, Lemon Flavor.
No Colorants. Parabens, Phthalates and Sulfates free.
My Verdict:
This product is really heaven-sent! I am almost always dehydrated because I am slow to drinking water so the end result is having dry skin and chapped lips especially in the humid weather. This Lip Balm from NannyRose really works wonders for me because it keeps my lips moisturized and hydrated for a long period of time. It also has a sweet lemon-y smell which I like. It would be better though if it was packed like a lippie so I wouldn't have to use my fingers to apply the product but nevertheless, this is a life saver! Who wants dry and chapped lips anyway? It also doesn't hurt that the packaging is uber cute and handy and can be brought anywhere anytime :)
[2] Sticks and Pulls Honey Wax (available in 50g, 100g, 200g)
Strip off unwanted hair with this sweet smelling, sweet loving pot of sticky concoction. This all natural sweetheart is made of locally produced honey, sugar and calamansi juice that keep skin soft and dewy. It contains no harsh chemicals and ingredients that can cause allergies that is why it can be used on sensitive skin and delicate areas. You can carry out waxing on your own any time – strip off unwanted hair, keep skin smooth and hydrated, and even exfoliate dead skin cells.
How to use:
- Remove cap and heat the jar of wax in a microwave oven (in medium heat) for 10-15 seconds – just enough to soften the mixture. Stir the mixture and let it rest until its temperature is cool enough to apply on skin.
- Prep your skin by washing the area with soap and water to remove unwanted residue. Dash a little powder on the area to be waxed to keep it dry.
- Using the wooden applicator, apply a thin layer of the wax in the direction of hair growth. In the same direction, place the strip of cloth on top and even out air bubbles.
- SWIFTLY pull the end of the cloth towards the opposite direction – against hair growth. Repeat as needed.
- NOTE: Reddening of the skin after waxing is normal. Wax residue on skin can easily be removed with a damp cloth. Allow pores to close by letting skin rest for a least 30 minutes before completely washing the waxed area
- A SWEET REMINDER: do not use on broken and irritated skin.
My Verdict:
With the all natural ingredients of this honey wax (e.g honey, calamansi juice and sugar) I am all sold. I have tried a wax from another brand before so I've figured I might be able to compare the two. When I used this honey wax from Nanny Rose, I am surprised that it works much better than the other one I've tried. I tried to use this warm and cold and it works both ways – just make sure that you follow instructions carefully. It also leaves the skin smooth after cleaning the wax. I do admit though that not all hair can be taken out with just one pull so one must repeat as needed. The product is also packed in a tub and a spatula is needed to scoop product out. A small tub goes a really long way if you’ll use it for your underarms only however you’ll need large amounts if you intend to use it on both legs and arms – so it’s convenient that they have tubs in different sizes! Yay!
[3] Gugo Lawat Shampoo (100ml for PHP99 and 200ml for PHP185)
Nanny Rose Gugo & Lawat Shampoo is speficially aimed at preventing hairfall. It is a paraben-free and sulfate-free concoction infused with VCO, sunflower and soya bean oil to moisturize, add shine and reduce hairfall. It has a refreshing lemongrass and grapefruit scent with a hint of gugo.
My Verdict:
Okay, I love how this shampoo smells and how the scent stays on for a long time. The only problem is, after using the shampoo my hair felt a little dry and frizzy and it was too difficult for me to comb it L My hair has been dyed before so I understand that it will be hard to comb it but other shampoos solve the problem quite easily without me needing a conditioner L Anyway, since the shampoo did promise lesser hairfall – I think it was good on its word. There were lesser hair strands on my comb after using the shampoo for a longer time. However, if you ask me whether I’d purchase again? I might just pass.
